The annual Retreat of the Executive of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew (BSA) was held from March 9-11 at the Hillcrest Retreat Centre, Brown’s Town. This event was introduced by the current President, Bro. Carl Singh, in 2016 to help develop the spirituality of the organisation’s leadership.
The Rev. Michael Allen, Rector, Church of the Ascension, Mona, led the exercise which included prayer sessions and chapel services. In reflecting on the gift of life, he highlighted ways to give thanks for this amidst the world’s challenges and temptations.
The Rev. Kirk Brown, Rector, St. Michael’s Church, Clark’s Town, Trelawny, analysed the characteristics of the under-40’s group, while the Rev. Barrington Soares, Rector, Mandeville Parish Church, addressed issues of ageing and the over-40’s. Participants also explored approaches to the faith by these age cohorts and how Christian beliefs helped older persons to deal with complex life issues.
The virtues of understanding, patience, reflection, silence, generosity of spirit and a listening ear were recommended to help counter challenges in presenting the faith to young people.
