The funeral for the late Head of Church Army Jamaica, Sister Phyllis Verona Thomas, will be held on Saturday, May 20 at the St. Andrew Parish Church, Half Way Tree at 10.00 a.m.
The Service, which will be attended by clergy and laity from across the Diocese, will be conducted by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Howard Gregory, Bishop of Jamaica & The Cayman Islands; and the Sermon will be preached by the Rt. Rev. Dr. Harold Daniel, retired Bishop of Mandeville, with whom Sister Phyllis worked closely for several years.
Among the persons delivering tributes will be the Rev. Prebendary Rose Hudson-Wilson, who will represent Church Army International. Rev. Hudson-Wilkin, who is Chaplain to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II and the House of Commons, began her ministry in the Church as a member of Church Army Jamaica.
Sister Phyllis Thomas, who died at the University Hospital of the West Indies on May 8 after ailing for some time, was commissioned as a Church Army Officer in the Diocese of Jamaica & The Cayman Islands in 1987. She was appointed Head of Church Army Jamaica in 2003 and Director of Evangelism in 2007.
She will be buried in the St. Andrew Parish Church Cemetery.
