Exodus 6
5Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.
10Then the Lord said to Moses, 11“Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.”
Take a Moment to Ponder
In a time when the prosperity gospel is very popular and in high demand we have to guard ourselves lest we lose sight of God’s PROMISE. A blessing is God’s favour and protection. God has a plan for each of us and He blesses us accordingly as we journey together. In this journey we will have new experiences in God. As a result He knows when and how to bestow His favour and protection upon us. In the Exodus reading God positioned Joseph to journey to Egypt to preserve the life of His chosen people. Joseph’s path to this position of privilege was not easy, but God poured out his blessing upon Him for this purpose to fulfill the PROMISE. He gave his family a timeline to stay in Egypt but they overstayed.
Genesis 45:
9 Hurry and go up to my father and say to him, ‘Thus says your son Joseph, God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not delay. . 11 I will provide for you there—since there are five more years of famine to come—so that you and your household, and all that you have, will not come to poverty.
They should have stayed five years. They did not though. The feeling of being blessed over took them to the point where they let go of God’s promise, left the promised land, overstayed and ended up spending many years. I say many because theologians are researching the dates as it was possible they spent 215 before being enslaved and another 430 years in bondage.
Practical Action:
What is God’s promise for your life?
Make a list of the blessings He has bestowed on you….
Reflect on the list and the promise…
The blessings that were bestowed, did they aid you towards realising His promise for your life?
Is there anything at all that you saw as a blessing that you now need to STEP AWAY from because it is hindering the PROMISE from becoming a REALITY?
A Moment in Prayer
Let us pray:
God You have called me to be Yours, and here I am, Your child. I am in need of Your constant help. Open my eyes to see where You are leading me, and give me the strength to let go of the things You intended to be short term in my life. I stand ready to enter the PROMISE. AMEN.
